Activities
Our students are involved in many activities which help them continue to work within the school and community to foster a positive school spirit, help them develop creativity, build leadership skills, and develop as responsible citizens in a global society. In a small rural school, EVERYONE gets to be a big part of organizing and participating in school teams, projects, and events days.
The links on this section of the website will guide you towards some of those projects that have enhanced our learning experience over the past school year!
Special Educational Programs/Humanitarian or Environmental Activities:
Teddy Bear Toss With the Junior Canucks - Bonanza School students and staff collected several large garbage bags FULL of teddy bears and other stuffed toys to contribute to the Annual Dawson Creek Junior Canucks Hockey Team's Teddy Bear Toss. The bears are given to children in the local hospital or in trauma situations.
Fundraising for Environmental and Global Charities/Foundations - UNICEF, SPCA, Cookie sales, Halloween Carnivals, and Candygram sales have helped us raise money for organizations dear to our hearts!
Recycling - We recycle our bottles, paper, and pop can tabs on a daily basis. Proceeds support our school library for books, the Grade 7 & 8 field trip, and the Ronald McDonald House in Edmonton, AB.
Farm Credit Canada - Drive Away Hunger Campaign 2015/16. Bonanza School collected non-perishable food items last fall through FCC Drive Away Hunger Campaign. All proceeds supported local families in the Dawson Creek, BC area.
Terry Fox Run - Bonanza School has participated for the last 5 years; supporting the Terry Fox Foundation. In 2016 our school raised $1620.
Jump Rope for Heart - Our school has supported the Heart and Stroke Foundation through Jump Rope for Heart for many years here at Bonanza. Our school loves participating by skipping to get our hearts pumping! This usually occurs near Valentines Day in February for Heart Month!
